Definitions

Throttling limits the throughput of services and protocols.

Shaping implements protocol-based priority to manage demand, giving interactive services higher priority over non-interactive ones.

Pure Uncapped WiFi

All Pure WiFi packages are uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled. There are no usage thresholds. No throttling or shaping will ever be applied.

Home, Premium and Business Uncapped WiFi

Home Uncapped packages have a threshold (30-day rolling window) after which speeds may be subject to shaping and throttling based on network demand. Premium and Business packages follow the published product rules.

Home Uncapped packages are subject to throttling only when a user has reached their monthly threshold, and only during peak demand periods when required.

Monthly thresholds (FUP examples):

  • 2 Mbps: 150GB — stays 2Mbps for the month
  • 4 Mbps: 200GB — throttled to 2Mbps for remainder of month
  • 6 Mbps: 250GB — throttled to 4Mbps for remainder of month
  • 8 Mbps: 300GB — throttled to 4Mbps for remainder of month
  • 10 Mbps: 350GB — throttled to 4Mbps for remainder of month
  • 12–22 Mbps: 400GB — throttled to 4Mbps for remainder of month

WiFi Unshaped / Uncapped (2 Mbps to 50 Mbps) will not be limited or throttled under normal conditions. Fibre Unshaped / Uncapped is not limited or throttled based on the speed you pay for. Under severe network load, throttling sequence is: 1) WiFi FUP users, 2) WiFi uncapped/unshaped users, 3) Fibre users.

Uncapped WiFi use

Uncapped WiFi is intended for home and personal use. Reselling services or using home services for business purposes is prohibited, including WISP provision, hosting shell accounts, providing email/news/download/VPN services to others, running home/private servers, or sharing services.

Contention

Network capacity is subject to contention. A significant rise in demand can affect bandwidth availability. SpikeWug manages the network to maintain fair service.

Spam and unsolicited bulk mail

Unsolicited bulk email is regarded as spam except where there is a prior relationship or explicit consent. Clients must not send spam, operate mailing lists without recipient permission, or leave mail servers open for public relay.

Protection of minors

Clients may not use SpikeWug services to harm minors, or to host sexually explicit or pornographic material of any nature.

User responsibilities

Clients are responsible for misuse that occurs through their account, including securing access and supervising minors who use the service.

Complaints relating to violations of this AUP should be submitted in writing to abuse@spikewug.co.za. Complaints must be substantiated and state the nature of the problem.

Action following breach

SpikeWug may warn, suspend or cancel service; inform third-party networks; charge administrative costs; assist other administrators; institute civil or criminal proceedings; and share information with other providers or law enforcement as appropriate.

Reservation of rights

SpikeWug Pty Ltd reserves the right to amend this policy at any time without notice, and to act against abuse not listed in this document.
